John was born in the beautiful state of Pennsylvania , which is famous for fine timbers and excellent makers such as the Amish. John first started wood working in Colorado , where he quickly became fascinated with wood and how it could be manipulated. After marrying his wife, Liz, they emigrated to England . John took this opportunity to learn from English cabinetmakers, who are famous around the world. While doing an apprenticeship in North Yorkshire, John had the opportunity to go to Leeds College of Art and Design to study advanced furniture making. After finishing his apprenticeship John felt that he wanted to have more influences from around the world, and learn from the best. This is how John found himself at the Australian School of Fine Furniture . ASFF is where John learnt to combine his traditional making skills with modern techniques for furniture. John is now back in England making modern furniture, which combines hand skills and material knowledge of the past with technologies of today. John aims to design furniture that is will built, finished to the highest standard, and above all, loved by its owner. |
