I have always aimed at craftsmanship of the highest level and in doing that have developed a distinctive style with contemporary designs that will fit into any setting. There have been many influences but, as in many small workshops, my work is rooted in the Arts and Crafts tradition.

I work mostly in solid hardwoods and the origins of the material is very important to me. Increasingly the timber I use is from local sources and often comes with a known provenance.

Most of my work is to commission. In offering a design-and-make service I can give the client a high-quality item unique to them.

History:

Garry grew up in Australia surrounded by eucalyptus forest and has always had an affinity with wood. He trained as a primary school teacher and taught successfully for several years before travelling the world. Having settled in England a desire to learn some practical skills saw him joining a furniture-making co-operative which was a start to a new career as cabinet maker.

He has been in his present workshop in Wilmslow, Cheshire, for 25 years and has developed a strong reputation with a sound client base. Commissions are mostly for homes but have also been for businesses and churches. Garry has always looked for the opportunity to develop new pieces and has exhibited work widely. He has also been involved in organizing many exhibitions, the most significant being "onetree" --- jointly co-ordinated with Peter Toaig.

Teaching is still in his blood and he has accepted invitations to teach furniture making and design at various institutions including Manchester College of Art and Technology, Macclesfield College, Manchester Metroplitan University and the University of Central Lancashire.
