My career in furniture making started in 1990, with the intention of producing Shaker furniture to the same exacting standards as the originals. However lack of demand lead me into other avenues, a fortuitous development really as I now enjoy a greater freedom of expression in my work.

My furniture has developed from the minimalist forms of the shakers to incorporate varied surface decoration and curved forms. However I believe I still strive for the same exacting standards in making.

Most of my work is to commission, the challenge in commissioned work is to marry my design vocabulary and the customers requirements. The occasional exhibition allows me to give my imagination free rein with a speculative piece! Speculative work allows the development of new ideas and experimentation with new techniques. Recent work has experimented with the use of inlay and the development of curved forms and asymmetry to create a fluid effect.
