Michael Tysoe

Michael obtained qualifications in art and design at what is now Liverpool John Moores University and intended to be an illustrator. After reading the books of James Krenov and Alan Peters, he decided to change disciplines and study furniture making. Always an avid woodworker, he was accepted at the College of the Redwoods fine furniture program in California -- James Krenov's school. He has had a workshop, first in Liverpool and more recently on the Wirral, for many years, where he makes fine furniture in the Arts and Crafts tradition with a contemporary flair. His furniture shows the subtle details of often complex joinery, the beauty of well chosen timber and inevitably a hint of Krenov's influence, with his own voice which is rooted in traditional English craftsmanship.
